The Ford Focus was the Most Basic Car You Could Buy in 2011
In 2012, Lexus was producing the LFA, a Japanese super car with a carbon fibre chassis. The Corvette ZR1 was a 640 hp MONSTER that could do 0-60 in 3.4 sec. The Tesla Model S was about to come out and had a 300+ mi all electric range, and a touchscreen that allowed you to browse the web as you drove down the interstate. All the while, you could purchase a Ford Focus, which is perhaps the most basic automobile I've ever seen. In this video, I will give you a tour of this Focus, and show you just how bare-bones this automobile really is! Stick around to find out.

The Saab 9-3 is an Incredible Used Car Bargain
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.6 месяцев назад
For decades, Saab produced well-built, unique cars which attracted a loyal following. This all came to a sad and untimely end at the hands of General Motors, when they starved the brand of creativity and innovation for years, before axing the Swedish mainstay in 2010. Today, you can find a used Saab for under $5,000, and you might be surprised to learn about the value you get for your money. En...

    It's a hard decision to put $1,900 into a car that might only be worth $4,000. Obviously you want to hang onto it. But then have you seen the new, sporty Prius models?? You could've traded the '04 in for a new one and suddenly have a car that girls will like.

    • @americanchallenger
      @americanchallenger 10 дней назад

      Not when you consider the cost of a new car. A new Prius at the minimum is a ~$23k cars, and I can guarantee you not many girls would be very impressed with it haha. You'd be hard pressed to find a car capable of going another 150k miles for $1900, and also get 45 mpg.

    nice vid, but you gave GM a bit too much credit imho ;), Saab still developed a lot of this car in Sweden. Lot of improvements on the chassis too, most importantly; all the early (pre 2012) 4cylinder turbo engines are pretty much Saab engines, block is GM, but Saab developed it on it's own, internals, motor management, turbo's, bits and bops. that engine is a class apart :) (and the 1.8t is a low pressure saab 2.0 engine(B207E), whilst the NA 1.8 is pretty much an Opel engine (Z18XE), in 2012 a 160hp and a 220hp 4cylinder (A20NFT) was offered, the V6's (LP9) and diesels (Z19D*) those are all general GM's). cheers for the vid!

    Currently, summer 2024, you can buy a decent Saab 9-3 convertible in the UK for under $2000 (I do mean dollars not GBP). Ours is a 2007, 1.9 Tid 150, 110k miles. The hood and interior are like new. It has new alloy wheels and tyres, a new turbo, clutch, water pump and cam belt, and everything works as it should, with no leaks, including the hood hydraulics. We also have a 2010 9-3 Sportwagon, same engine but had 150k miles when we got it. Again, all good but in the five years of ownership I have had a clutch and flywheel done at my local Saab specialist for $800 all in. That one is now at 185k and produces slightly better performance than the 'vert, very, very good Fiat engines returning 45 mpg in the 'vert and 50 mpg in the wagon. Some people insist Saab was ruined by GM and point at EGR, DPF and other faults, however, if properly maintained these problems are either avoided or easy enough to fix. To replace the EGR is a 30 minute job, cleaning the DPF can restore performance where a car has not been used on the open road, etc. Most 9-3 in the UK are manual, six speed. There are automatics available of course and they are well suited to the petrol models, but I believe problematic in diesels. Italian engines need a good hard run every now and again, and that is also true of my 2011 Alfa Giulietta, which has the same Fiat 1.9 turbo diesel, goes 0 - 60 in around 8 seconds and returns 65 miles per gallon.

    You forgot the 140-series in your history lesson. The sedan came out in 1965 if i remember correctly. We hada 1973 145 when i was growingup. Had that car until 2009. Then it had 300k miles on the clock. An excellent car. We had lon caravan vacatins every year and dad drove it daily. He were a b smith so he could ix it himself. He fixed rust by adding stainless steel which he shaped with an hammer and anvil to the correct shape. So maybe 40% or so of that car were stainless steel in the end. Now i gota 97 S90 though. The penultimate 900-series car. Its for sale now with only 100k miles and damn its smooth and nota speck of rust. Im seeling that and keeping my 1996 Cadillac Deville. Itsa tough choice and i suspect the sane thing wouldbe to keep the Volvo but wel....

    In love with my reliable Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. Bought new 25K 10/2007. Excellent shape, since its garage kept. Original Battery perhaps due to less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections? Has additional front and rear running lights. The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself by feeling my way with my hand and did not have to take the bumper off. They are much brighter than the originals. Replace the 12V battery twice. New water pump. New left front bearing. 2 New PVC valve replacement. Fix a leak in the air-conditioning system. Cleaned hybrid battery fan with an added cleanable filter screen at the air intake. Sometimes the dash lights go out when the weather gets cold then will go back on within 50 miles of driving. Heard it’s cold solder joints on the electronics? Went 90K 10yr. with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better and a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 50+ MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED and a sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed with great cargo capacity. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. The beautiful large dash display is ahead of its time with sharp graphics like a space ship. Ran out of gas, and a whole dashboard lit up including the triangle of death (indicates serious malfunction - do something now!). Fortunately filled up 1/2 mile away before the battery became too low. Never again!! It’s an adventure reliable stealth vehicle that slips through the air quietly! The best smooth styling of all the model years. Definitely a incognito James Bond vehicle with secret abilities never to be underestimated. So watch out!!! Soon it will become a classic antique with appreciating value.

    I have a gen 2 (although technically it's a gen 3). It's probably the 7th or 8th Prius in our family. They are undeniably great cars. Well engineered and made to be great cars. They are not supermodels or spaceships, but what they do is exactly what you really need and that is keep going and going. This one I have now is even worse that yours. It's had some rear damage and until recently and probably for a long time been leaking rain into the boot right where the battery is and into the spare wheel well. I got it when it had a bad HV battery. Luckly I know how to fix that up really cheaply (with a few replacement packs). It's still a great car: easy to drive, cheap to run, comfortable, smooth. At the time of writing 19 years old. It'll quite probably last another 19 years.
